– Hellma Materials presents new gamma camera!

Dresden, September 2025 – This week we are at KONTEC in Dresden and are presenting a video in the expert exhibition.

At stand S07 of Brenk Systemplanung GmbH, we look forward to presenting our innovative gamma camera with iPad display! In a short video we show how our gamma camera – equipped with a Hellma cerbromide scintillator – detects and visualises radioactive spots! With the use of machine learning and augmented reality!

Visit us at stand S07 and see a presentation of our gamma camera, which was specially developed for the clearance procedure of nuclear power plants. Even the tiniest amounts of radioactivity are detected – faster than ever before. The gamma camera was developed in co-operation with our partners from the QGRIS project:

The work on the gamma camera was funded by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space in the FORKA funding programme.

Hellma Materials shows you how!

Jena/Ilmenau, September 2025 – We are pleased to present a recent article from the Zeitschrift für wirtschaftliche Fabrikbetrieb (Volume 120, Issue 7-8)! In it, the Smart Robotics team at the @Technische Universität Ilmenau (with our active support 😉) investigated practical approaches for integrating collaborative robotics into existing production environments of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

We all know the challenge: new, automated machines are expensive. A clever and cost-effective alternative? Cobots! They modernise existing systems, increase performance and extend service life. Their simple programming and flexible application options are simply great – and they take up much less space than industrial robots! 👍

The technical article uses the modernisation of one of our faceting machines with a collaborative robotic system to show how repetitive tasks can be automated and efficiency and adaptability increased. The best thing about it: the human remains at the centre! While the cobot takes over the monotony, our employees concentrate on value-adding tasks such as quality inspection.
A great example of forward-looking production!

Munich, 26 June 2025 – LASER World of PHOTONICS, the global summit of the laser and photonics industry, is in full swing and once again proves its central importance for the industry. Hellma Materials is once again represented in Munich this year with a strong team presence and can draw a thoroughly positive balance at the halfway point of the trade fair.

After two intensive and successful opening days, the positive trend continues seamlessly today, Thursday. The atmosphere at the stand is characterised by energy and future-oriented discussions. While summer temperatures prevail outside, the real “heat” can be felt in the exhibition halls – in the high-calibre discussions that deal with urgent and crucial industry topics.

Focus on specific projects and full order books

This year, discussions with long-standing partners, customers and new interested parties have been characterised by a remarkable depth and concreteness. The focus is less on the general initiation and more on the details of future projects. The “hot topics” discussed by our team of experts at the stand are a clear reflection of the current market dynamics: it is all about binding delivery dates, the strategic safeguarding of supply chains and specific order volumes for innovative and future-oriented applications.

This development underlines the market’s confidence in the performance and reliability of Hellma Materials and confirms our course as a leading supplier of optical crystals and materials.

The fascination of trade fairs: Personal exchange remains irreplaceable

The dynamic atmosphere and the high quality of the encounters impressively demonstrate that a leading trade fair such as LASER World of PHOTONICS is and remains irreplaceable as a platform for personal dialogue. The opportunity to discuss complex requirements face to face and develop solutions together creates a basis of trust that cannot be achieved through digital channels alone. In short: the trade fair rocks! We are delighted with the response and are looking forward to the remaining day of the trade fair.

Invitation to the photonics talents of tomorrow: Student Day on Friday

We are particularly keen to promote young talent, as today’s students are the photonics experts of the future. We would therefore like to draw the attention of all students of technical and scientific disciplines to a special opportunity:

Jena – Despite summer temperatures of around 31 degrees, Jena’s market square was a hotspot for career opportunities last Saturday – and we at Hellma Materials were right in the middle of it!

We took part in the sixth Jobwalk in Jena with a dedicated team of three and used the opportunity to present our company as an innovative employer in the region. The atmosphere was fantastic and we are delighted with the high number of visitors and the great interest in our career opportunities.

We had countless inspiring conversations and made many valuable contacts with potential new colleagues. It was a great pleasure for us to show directly and personally what Hellma Materials is all about.

A big thank you to the organisers from the agency jobwalk Karriereevents and JenaWirtschaft for the great event and of course to everyone who visited our stand!

Did you miss the job walk? No problem! You can find all our vacancies on our page for current job vacancies.

Eisenberg/Jena – Hellma Materials looks back on a highly successful participation in the 17th Job Fair in Eisenberg, which recently took place on March 28, 2025, in the Stadthalle (city hall). As one of around 50 exhibitors from the region, Hellma Materials presented itself to the numerous visitors and informed them about the diverse career and training opportunities within the company.

Our booth enjoyed great popularity and was consistently well attended. Numerous schoolchildren, students, graduates, and experienced professionals took the opportunity to speak directly with our team about entry-level opportunities, internships, apprenticeships, and job offers. The many interesting discussions demonstrated the high level of interest in a career at a technologically leading company like Hellma Materials.

The job fair, organized by the city of Eisenberg in cooperation with the Saale-Holzland district administration, the East Thuringia Employment Agency, and the SHK Job Center, once again provided an excellent platform for exchange between regional employers and potential young talent and skilled workers.

For Hellma Materials, the fair was a complete success. “We are thrilled with the positive response and the many qualified contacts we were able to make,” summarizes Ms. Ehrke from Human Resources. “The job fair in Eisenberg is an important tool for attracting talent to our company and positioning ourselves as an attractive employer in the region.”

We are already looking forward to receiving potential applications and perhaps welcoming some of the visitors as new colleagues at Hellma Materials soon.

… we’re celebrating our birthday!

Jena – We’re celebrating 15 years of company history, marked by the production of over 500 tons of crystals and the continuous development of new crystal types. Our strategic growth included acquisitions and the establishment of new locations, which has seen us grow from 39 employees at our founding location to almost 200 employees at five locations worldwide.

Our commitment to training young talent is important to us, and we value the loyalty of our employees, some of whom are happy to return to us even after retirement. We have successfully mastered challenges such as the pandemic and a cyclical semiconductor market. Our ISO 50001 certification underscores our commitment to responsible energy management.

We look back with pride on 15 years of growth, innovation, and resilience and look forward to a continued successful future.

Hellma Materials establishes a crystall growing facility in Sweden

Jena/Trollhättan – Hellma Materials Group expands global presence – Sweden’s Minister of Foreign Trade Anna Hallberg welcomes Hellma Materials in Trollhättan – Materials specialist invests € 20 million in crystal growth capacity expansion as an initial step.

With its subsidiary Hellma Materials GmbH, the internationally operating Hellma Materials Group is establishing a new location in Trollhättan, Sweden. The Jena-based specialists in the production of crystalline materials for optronics and radiation detection are responding to the sustained increase in demand from the semiconductor industry and are thus expanding their capacities. For the Hellma Materials Group, this means expanding its market leadership in this segment and consistently pursuing its planned growth path. At a meeting with Sweden’s Minister of Foreign Trade Anna Hallberg, Dr. Thomas Töpfer, Managing Director and partner of Hellma Materials GmbH, explained his plans for the new location.

Hellma Materials has found a suitable location for this in Trollhättan in southwest Sweden. “We are grateful to have found a very business-friendly environment here and great support from the team from the regional economic development agency, Business Sweden, Position Väst, the landlord NEVS, and the city of Trollhättan,” says Dr. Thomas Töpfer, Managing Director and co-owner of the company.
Trollhättan has a long tradition of industrial manufacturing. Two buildings are immediately operational in parts of the former Saab car factory, which is now owned by NEVS.
“It meets our complex requirements for the supply of electricity, industrial cooling water, and other infrastructure,” continued Dr. Töpfer.

During the on-site visit, the minister was impressed by the plans, which include the creation of at least 20 new jobs.
“Sweden should always be the first choice for global companies when it comes to establishing operations, investing, and research and innovation collaborations. This creates the innovative jobs of the future and brings new skills into our business world. That’s why I’m very pleased to welcome Hellma Materials to Trollhättan and Sweden,” says Hallberg.
